Structural vigas rest directly on top of the load-bearing wall. They sit on the adobe bond beam or wooden header. They span the room and project past the exterior wall as the visible beam tail. They are seated, leveled, and pinned to the bond beam. Latillas, decking, and roof packing are then built up over them. Decorative viga tails on stucco-over-frame walls install differently per Barron Designs and Volterra Products guidance. The installer drills the wall and sets a threaded rod into a structural backer. Construction adhesive is applied to the unfinished end of the viga. The beam slides over the rod with gentle rotation. It is toe-screwed to the stucco with exterior-grade deck screws.
