Catalogued historic adobes cluster in ten US states. The leaders are New Mexico, Arizona, California, Texas, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Florida, Kansas, and the District of Columbia. New Mexico holds the largest inventory by far. Santa Fe, Taos, and Albuquerque together host hundreds of intact pre-1900 examples. Tucson and Tempe anchor the Arizona inventory. California's stock runs from Spanish-era missions in San Diego to the Monterey adobes of the central coast. The Adobe House Atlas catalogues 222 named properties across these regions. Outside the Southwest the form is rare: a handful of mid-twentieth-century earthen revival homes exist in Florida and Kansas.
